About MAXIMILLIAN GALLERY
Maximillian Gallery connects those who desire meaningful, cutting edge art – collectors – with emerging talent: contemporary, urban and street artists. Maximillian Gallery is the first emerging art gallery within a hotel and represents an array of talent including painters, sculptors, photographers, and illustrators, with new artists added regularly.
About The Founder
Maximillian Gallery was founded by Caradoc, an avid art collector and entrepreneur. In addition to being a passionate art collector and patron of the arts, Caradoc has had more than 20 years’ experience in marketing, including licensing, production, product placement, digital strategy and consumer products.
Caradoc has been a life-long art enthusiast, born to artist parents and raised in both France and the United States. His keen eye for art was honed at an early age with weekly visits to the Louvre and visits to the top art galleries in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. Caradoc’s grandmother was Esther Waggoner Robles, a creative force on Los Angeles’ art scene. She opened the first art gallery on La Cienega Boulevard, the Esther Robles Gallery, which was one of the most successful and important fine art galleries for 30 years representing top artists of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Her archives are housed at the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art. Another contribution she made to the art world that continues today is the creation of the “art walk”, whereby galleries hold their exhibition openings simultaneously.
Prior to launching Maximillian Gallery, Caradoc worked for Fortune 500 company, Avery Dennison, as head of new revenue models. Among other accomplishments, he created an exclusive worldwide alliance with Getty Images’ iStockphoto that placed iStockphoto offers into fifteen million Avery products. Previously he worked at Commission Junction, providing some of the world’s best-known brands with search engine marketing strategy. Caradoc has also produced films and albums. He created the iconic board game, Vino! The Exciting Game of Wine, sold at Neiman Marcus among other luxury retailers. Lastly, as Vice President of New Product Development at Simon Marketing, (the company responsible for creating McDonald’s promotions such as Happy Meals), Caradoc developed a deep understanding of large-scale promotions and marketing.
Art and business are uniquely fused in Caradoc’s DNA: he also holds an MBA from HEC, France’s top business school. Blending art and business made perfect sense, hence, Maximillian Gallery was born.
Opening in a truly unique location was crucial to Caradoc’s vision to offer emerging art access to the world’s tastemakers and trendsetters. The exceptional vision, depth of art knowledge, and sensitivity to working with the world’s top celebrities and VIPs all contributed to Caradoc’s gallery being embraced by the Sunset Marquis Hotel, and the gallery was privileged to open there in December 2010.
“Maximillian Gallery is committed to showcasing the top emerging, urban and street art,” says Caradoc, Owner & Director of Maximillian Gallery. “Opening in such a unique location as the Sunset Marquis Hotel brought the vision full circle.”
“My passion lies in collecting the art I support and believe in, and showcasing it to new and seasoned collectors alike. I love to be a part of the process of education and discovery. Nothing should stand in the way from passionate collectors acquiring work from today’s top emerging artists.”
Providing services that draw from founder Caradoc’s lifetime of experience in emerging and contemporary art in the United States and internationally, Maximillian Gallery is devoted to bringing cutting-edge art to a new audience. Art Licensing services are also available for many of the talented artists through the gallery.
