Title: The Monterey
Medium: Hand Painted Guitar
The 1967 Monterey Pop Festival was a momentous occasion in rock history. Jimi Hendrix exploded onto the music scene with his electric performance ending with him teasing the flames from his smashed and burning guitar. Pamelina was there.
30 years later, Pamelina was asked to re-create the iconic guitar for Fender’s Custom Shop. Jimi had decorated it just minutes before his performance so no photos exist to work from. Pamelina watched a film of his performance frame-by-frame to do the re-creation. She was asked to ‘Pamelina’ the art until it became the image that is so familiar among guitar collectors today. With the blessing of Al Hendrix, Jimi’s father, the guitar went into production as a 210 hand-painted limited edition.
In 2007, Pamelina created The Monterey as a tribute to the tribute and to the area where she grew up and which formed her as the artist she is today. They’re painted in a similar style as a 200 hand-painted limited edition.
Pamelina created a special matching hand-painted case available on order.
